Posted February 14th, 2006 by admin

Learn more about today’s diet and exercise planning topic; the benefits of a diet high in fiber.

The high fiber diet consists of eating foods that are high in fiber. Easy, I know. Fiber is calorie free and great for colon health. Fiber also helps you feel full. Following a high fiber diet can help you feel a wondrous change for the better.

Obesity is a major health issue in today’s society. Changing your food choices to include more high fiber foods and less processed foods can help to reverse obesity statistics. Studies show that most Americans eat an average of 10-12 grams of fiber daily. Nutritional experts suggest a minimum allowance of 20-35 grams of dietary fiber daily.

Where can you find fiber? You can find fiber in fruits, vegetables, brown rice, oats, flaxseed, whole grain breads, and cereals. Eating a diet high in fiber will help you easily lose weight. People who eat high fiber foods weigh less than those who do not. High fiber foods help you lose weight because they make you feel full for a longer period of time. This is because they take longer to digest. You will have less food cravings and are much less likely to overeat.

When eating a diet high in fiber, make sure to drink plenty of water. Fiber acts like a sponge. This means to properly expel fiber from the colon, you need to drink plenty of water. A diet high in fiber is linked to a lowered risk of developing heart disease and some forms of cancer. Eating fiber-rich foods is great way to lose weight and live a healthy lifestyle.
