Diet and Exercise Planning: Carbohydrates

Posted February 14th, 2006 by admin

Learn more about carbohydrates before starting a low carb diet and exercise planning program.

Low carb diet and exercise planning programs are extremely popular today. Many have considered or are cutting carbs. But is this type of diet right for you?

Carbohydrates are the fuel for energy in our cells. The body takes each carbohydrate and converts it into its simplest form, glucose. Whether we take in complex carbs (pasta) or simple carbs (glucose), it will be used as energy or stored as fat. This is a main reason why we as Americans are overweight.

When we take in more calories than our body needs, the excess is stored in the body as fat. Many food manufacturers offer low fat, reduced fat, and reduced calorie foods. However, this is bad because we feel since we are not eating as many bad calories we will not gain as much weight. This leads us to think it is okay to eat a whole package of this food. Wrong! Calories are calories. Even if we are not eating as much fat, empty calories or nutrient void foods still add up. Cutting carbs will help you to lose weight, but be careful. Carbohydrates are everywhere. I suggest moderating your carbohydrates. Instead of cutting carbs out all together, try adding a carb blocker to your low carb diet and exercise program.
