Diet and Exercise Planning: Green Tea Health Benefits

Posted February 17th, 2006 by admin

Green Tea is becoming quite popular in many diet and exercise planning routines.

There has been a lot of diet and exercise planning hype around the benefits of green tea. Is green tea really worth drinking? Let’s review some of the benefits of green tea so you can decide for yourself.

Green tea is a rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants help to neutralize harmful free radicals thought to cause a host of unhealthy conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and aging. Regular drinking of green tea has been shown to lower the rates of cancer. This has been shown extensively in cultures in which green tea is a staple of the diet.

Studies also show that green tea has possible anti-inflammatory benefits. Green tea is thought to help prevent arthritis effects. Green tea helps to stimulate the immune system. Green tea also helps to detoxify the liver of toxins such as alcohol and cigarette smoke.

Green tea promotes good hygiene as it kills the bacteria thought to cause bad breath. This also helps to prevent cavities. Green tea also stimulates weight loss. Green tea contains polyphenols that help to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels which is very beneficial in a diet and exercise planning program. The only side effect green tea may have on one is insomnia at first, because green tea does contain naturally occurring caffeine. The caffeine content in green tea is one-third that of a cup of coffee. Insomnia should dissipate after regular use.
