Read more to find out how the detox diet works and the benefits it offers.

Detoxification is a process in which our body rids itself of toxins and wastes. Our body, when in a healthy state, does this naturally. However, over time the toxins build up and stress the body’s natural way of detoxifying.

Detoxification diets help to rid the body of excess toxins. This will help us to feel more energetic. This type of diet can also help us lose weight. A detox diet aids our body in digestion and absorption of nutrients, and increases mental clarity.

This diet involves fresh and whole foods like fruits and vegetables. When detoxing the body, avoid grapefruits. Grapefruits contain enzymes that affect the function of the liver. The liver is the organ primarily responsible for detoxifying the body. Recommended fresh vegetables while on the detox diet are broccoli, garlic, artichokes, beets, cauliflower, and red/green vegetables.

Try to avoid corn products, since corn often contains allergens. Rice, beans, nuts, and seeds are acceptable on this diet. Try to drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses a day) to assist in flushing the toxins out of the body. For a more detailed diet plan, consult a professional. Using this type of diet can help maximize your health, reduce your weight, and energize your life.
