Diet and Exercise Planning: The Mediterranean Diet

Posted February 15th, 2006 by admin

The Mediterranean Diet offers many diet and exercise planning benefits.

The Mediterranean diet is good for diet and exercise planning for several reasons. The Mediterranean diet is low in saturated fat. Physicians and nutritionists agree that a diet high in saturated fat can have very negative consequences such as heart disease and cancer.

The Mediterranean diet also includes a significant amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables have a beneficial effect on one’s health and wellbeing. Also, the Mediterranean diet is high in anti-oxidants. Antioxidants have been believed to assist in a longer, healthier life.

This diet is high in whole grains and fiber. This helps to lower the incidence of certain types of cancer, especially colorectal. The Mediterranean diet is high in lean meats, including fish and certain seafood. This is a healthy source of protein and energy.

The Mediterranean diet is also low in dairy products. In fact, any diary is low fat or non fat. This fact promotes weight loss. This diet and exercise plan helps to prevent many diseases including diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
