Diet and Exercise Planning: Tumescent Liposuction

Posted March 20th, 2006 by admin

Tumescent liposuction is a weight loss step above and beyond diet and exercise planning.

Today in Diet and Exercise Planning, “What is tumescent liposuction?” Tumescent liposuction is a type of liposuction that combines traditional liposuction techniques with tumescent anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess body fat. Tumescent liposuction is relatively new, becoming popular in the 1990’s.

What benefits does tumescent liposuction offer? Tumescent liposuction has minimal post-operative discomfort as compared to traditional liposuction procedures. Also, tumescent liposuction curtails surgical bleeding which reduces bruising and swelling post operatively.

Tumescent liposuction uses a dilute solution of lidocaine with epinephrine. Lidocaine is drug commonly used as a local anesthetic which eliminates the need for general anesthesia. Epinephrine temporarily restricts capillaries which reduces surgical bleeding. Lidocaine allows the patient to have 18+ hours of pain-free recovery. Tumescent liposuction also eliminates post operative symptoms such as nausea generally seen with general anesthesia.

Even with the use of tumescent liposuction, a good diet and exercise planning routine is a healthy decision everyone should consider.
