Energy and Weight Loss Supplements: L-Carnitine Deficiency

Posted December 28th, 2005 by admin

Learn how today’s energy and weight loss supplements tip can affect your energy level.

Deprivation of the nutrient L-carnitine can cause health problems, such as decreased energy, fatigue, and weight problems. The lack of L-carnitine causes fatty tissue to not be processed. This will build up to cause unhealthy levels, especially around the heart. This can lead to heart related diseases.

This deficiency can be caused by genetics, damage to the kidneys, liver, or brain through improper dietary intake. This nutrient is actually produced by the kidneys, liver, and brain. However, if genetics are at fault there will be less produced that is required by the body. When our kidneys, liver, or brain are damaged, the production of L-carnitine is interrupted. The result leads to a slowing of the energy distribution throughout the body. Those with this problem tend to put weight on rather easily. The reason for this is because the fatty acids are not being transformed into energy.

If supplementation is required, this nutrient can be found in food. L-carnitine can be found in breast milk. Children require this nutrient for growth during childhood. You can also find this nutrient in red meat, poultry, fish, avocadoes, wheat, fermented soybeans, wheat, asparagus, peanut butter, and dairy products.
