Energy and Weight Loss Supplements: Yo-Yo Dieting

Posted December 27th, 2005 by admin

Learn how yo-yo dieting can affect your energy, weight loss goals, and health.

Weight cycling (yo-yo dieting) is when any positive effects that a dieter has gained through their weight loss program is overcome by cravings. You hear about yo-yo dieting when a person loses weight and then gains it back only to lose it again. This feeds into a vicious cycle of dieting ups and downs. This process can be physically and emotionally draining.

The repeated cycles of weight loss and weight gain is an unhealthy practice. This results in a weakening of the immune system, decrease in functionality and strength of the body’s major organs, and a decrease in overall health of the individual. Looking for a quick fix to your weight problem is more likely to end in diet failure. These quick fixes come in many forms.

When you starve yourself in order to lose weight, you are more likely to give into cravings and yo-yo dieting begins. Another way yo-yo dieting comes into play is with fad diets. Fad diets involve eating one type of food group as well as eliminating a food group from the diet. The weight will return after the dieter stops the strict diet.

Depression and fatigue are factors that contribute to diet failure not based on healthy eating habits and regular exercise. Until the dieter learns to commit to a lifelong plan to loosing and maintaining their weight through healthy eating habits and regular exercise, this cycle will continue. Continuing these unhealthy habits can have serious effects to one’s health.
