Essence is one of the most popular forms of herbal medicine. Essential oils are classified as an essence. Essential oils can be processed through steam distillation, cold press, or solvent extraction. Many enjoy essential oils because of the therapeutic benefits they offer when applied topically in massage oil. Many prefer herbal medicine in the form of a pill or capsule versus the raw form of the herb. Herbal medicine is ground into powder before being capped or formed into a pill. Herbal medicine in a raw form is usually undesirable because of the taste. However, you should steep raw herbs into tea to release the healing power of the herbs. Decoctions are extractions of certain parts of a plant like roots, herb-bark, and berries. Decoctions is a longer process taking anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours.
