Many do not realize that there are herbal alternatives to health conditions. Let’s go over some common herbs and their possible health benefits. Herbal remedies come in the form of teas, extracts (tinctures), capsules, and loose/dried herbs in a bag.

Chamomile is a popular herb used to calm one’s nerves. This herb can relieve stomach upset, prevent ulcers, and help fight infection. Chamomile can be used to decrease the symptoms of morning sickness during pregnancy.

Dong quai is a herb used as a tonic to balance and strengthen the female reproductive system. Feverfew is a herb that prevents migraines. Feverfew can also be used as an anti-inflammatory and as a digestive aid.

Garlic is a familiar herb that can be used to protect against colds and the flu. Garlic helps to reduce the risk of heart disease. Ginger is another herb used to treat nausea and reduce inflammation. Peppermint oil helps calm the stomach and relieve gas. Peppermint oil can help reduce inflammation of the nasal passages and relieve muscle aches.

Licorice is a herb that can soothe stomach upset, control coughs, and work as an anti-inflammatory. Licorice Root stimulates the adrenal glands and can help the body cope with stress. Goldenseal is a herb that relieves intestinal and gallbladder inflammation. This herb has also been used to soothe inflamed and infected mucous membranes. Goldenseal has anti-infective and immune stimulating properties that help to shorten the duration of an illness.
