Posted December 7th, 2005 by admin

Learn why our body needs enzymes to function.

Recently we spoke about enzymes. Enzymes play a very important part with our bodily processes. An enzyme is the catalyst of a reaction, meaning that the enzyme assists or speeds up the reaction. Without the assistance of enzymes, may bodily processes would not proceed or occur.

Enzymes can be activated, regulated, and inhibited. The reason for this is to ensure that the rate of product is equivalent to the needs of the cell. This is one way the body keeps a natural balance. However, when the natural balance is disrupted we have illness. Many medications work to inhibit enzyme function when the natural balance is out of wack (cholesterol and blood pressure medications). This is why It is important to understand why enzymes are so vital for life.
