Vitamins and Your Health: Broccoli and Cancer

Posted February 14th, 2006 by admin

Broccoli can offer protection against cancer. Learn more from vitamins and your health.

Usually, cancer prevention, vitamins and your health are all in the same box. Today we are going to look outside the vitamin box at broccoli. Does broccoli offer protection against cancer simply with high vitamin and mineral content?

Sulforaphane has been discovered in broccoli and can offer protection against the deadly disease; cancer. This discover was made by a research scientist and professor; Richard Mithen of IFR.

Sulforaphane is an active chemical with antioxidant properties. The major drawbacks to this discover is the benefits of sulforaphane are limited to individuals with the gene GSTM1. Only about 50% of the world’s population has this genetic benefit.

Unfortunately, genetics leaves us susceptible to the disease cancer as well as renders us unprotected by potential cancer fighting chemicals. Regardless of your response to sulforaphane, cancer prevention is something we simply can not ignore.

Maybe Mom was right! Taking your vitamins everyday may have more health benefits than simply satisfying your mother’s “Because I told you so!” response.
