Learn more about today’s weight loss tips topic; food addictions.

Continuing on from yesterday’s weight loss tips. . . .

Bulimia is a common form of food addiction. In bulimia an individual overeats, then rids the body of the consumed food through vomiting or laxative induced bowel movements. Common signs of bulimia include consuming large portions of food rapidly, overly conscious of one’s weight, and isolation when eating.

Anorexia is another form of food addiction. Anorexia involves starving oneself in order to achieve an unrealistic weight. The anorexic individual is usually around 15% below the normal body weight. Anorexics develop phobias about gaining weight and fat. Anorexics do not want to eat around others and can become quite obsessed with their weight.

Treatment does exist for food addiction. The food addict can work with a psychotherapist to learn to deal properly with food and their emotions. In more serious cases, in-patient treatment at a psychological facility may be necessary. Joining a support group can help a food addict deal with their faults and failings. Weight loss tips wants the food addict to understand that there are others with similar problems that can help a food addict deal with their own issues.
