Weight Loss Tips: Exercise Nutrition

Learn more about exercise nutrition.

When fueling the body, complex carbohydrates are essential. Carbohydrates provide the energy needed by the body. Any carbohydrate will eventually be broken down into glucose. This is the simplest form of carbohydrates. However, if we do not use this energy the body will convert it to glycogen. This is considered an energy store. If the body needs energy it will rely on glycogen for energy. Glycogen is stored in the liver and muscles.

Fatigue will set in when your muscles cannot get enough glycogen. You will lose endurance and performance will drastically be reduced. Intense muscle building sessions can easily deplete glycogen reserves.

If you intend to build muscle, you need to consume about 40% quality carbohydrates each day. If enough carbohydrates are not consumed, the body will resort to other sources as fuel. Protein can be used by the body as a fuel source. However, the body does not prefer this and we tend to feel tired and sluggish when protein is used.
