Learn more about today’s weight loss tip; foods that can help ease pain.

Pain in any sort of form can make life unbearable. Relying on over the counter pain medications can help. But research also shows that making small changes to the diet can help relieve your pain symptoms. Here are a few dietary tips to help alleviate your pain.

The omega-3 fatty acids help to inhibit the inflammatory process that occurs during pain. Omega-6 fatty acids can increase inflammation. The Westerners diet contains a ratio of 16:1.8 of omega-6 to omega-3 fats. The typical Western diet is pro-inflammatory. Although omega-6 fats are good for us, we are eating far too much of these fats. The omega-6 fat is found in egg yolks, beef, pork, chicken, whole milk products, vegetable and seed oils, and packaged convenience foods. Omega-3 fats can be found in salmon, mackerel, halibut, tuna, ground flax seed, walnuts, and canola oil.

The omega-9 fatty acid is not considered essential but also decreases the inflammatory process that occurs during the pain process. Omega-9 fats are found in olive oil, pecans, avocados, peanuts, cashews, sesame oil, pistachio nuts, almonds, and macadamia nuts. However, moderate the amount of nuts you eat to 10-12 nuts for a serving size.

Antioxidants present in fruits and vegetables helps to prevent free radical damage. This means that they prevent the initiation of the inflammatory response. If you want to relieve some of your pain, try to eat at least 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Fruit servings equal half a tangerine or half a banana. Vegetable servings equal ½ cup of cooked or 1 cup raw vegetables.
