Learn more about today’s weight loss tip, L-carnitine deficiency.

Many do not realize that a deficiency in the nutrient L-carnitine may be a cause for their weight gain. L-carnitine deficiency can cause serious health problems if over time the deficiency is not dealt with. L-carnitine deficiency can cause fatigue and weight problems.

One serious health problem that can occur with L-carnitine deficiency is heart disease. Over time the lack of L-carnitine in the body causes unprocessed fatty tissue to accumulate around the heart. This accumulation of fatty tissue leads to unhealthy levels that cause heart related diseases.

A deficiency in this nutrient can be caused by genetics. This can be caused by damage to the liver, kidneys, the brain, or through poor dietary intake of the nutrient. It is difficult to be deficient in L-carnitine because it is produced in the kidneys, liver, and brain. But if there is a genetic flaw then the body will produce less that what is required by the body. Any damage to the kidneys, liver, or brain will also cause the body to produce less of L-carnitine.

Fatty tissue buildup leads to a slowing of energy distribution throughout the body. This is why people with kidney, liver, or brain damage tend to put weight on easily. L-carnitine can be found in red meat, fish, poultry, avocadoes, wheat, fermented soybeans, asparagus, peanut butter, and dairy products.
