Weight Loss Tips: Metabolic Syndrome
Learn more about today’s weight loss tip; how does the Metabolic Syndrome affect weight loss.
Why can’t I lose weight? Syndrome X or Metabolic Syndrome can have something to do with it. This is a common disease that is easily overlooked by the medical community. It is estimated that 1 in 3 people suffer from Metabolic Syndrome.
Glucose is the cells main source of energy. However, unprocessed glucose is converted into fat. If glucose keeps being converted to fat, overtime this adds to our hips, thighs, stomach, and buttocks. Syndrome X is a precursor to type 2 diabetes. This syndrome is also referred to as Insulin Resistance. Sufferers produce a high level of insulin. The body is then unable to process all the insulin and becomes resistant to the hormone insulin. Elevated insulin levels may be associated with weight gain, difficulty with weight loss, hypoglycemia, hypertension, heart disease, and certain menstrual imbalances.
What causes this syndrome? Genetics can predispose people to this disease. However, more often this syndrome is related to lifestyle. Lifestyle factors such as a diet high in starch, processed foods, simple sugars, smoking, increased stress, and lack of exercise can predispose you to this syndrome.
How can you treat Insulin Resistance? Try to omit starches, sugars, and processed foods from your diet. These foods cause high spikes in insulin causing you to feel sleepy when your blood sugar drops. Start exercising regularly. Increase your water intake. Limit caffeine intake. One-third your daily food intake should be fruits and vegetables. As you change your lifestyle, fatigue and fuzziness will begin to disappear. Visit your doctor. Ask your doctor to check your blood sugar levels.
