Today many Americans struggle with weight issues. However, we live in a world obsessed with sizes. This is why we fail at weight loss. Understanding food labels and the almighty portion size can help you lose weight and get closer to a healthy state of well-being.

When reading a food label, packaging gives more advice on calories and servings. Today US label regulations force manufacturers to be more open about the nutrition facts found in their foods. Here are some tips to use when checking food labels.

It is important to check the serving size. Many of us overdo our servings on foods. That is why we tend to gain weight. Try using the serving suggestion.

The average American consumes about 3,500 calories a day. This is a very high number since a healthy adult requires at least 2,000 calories a day. This is a 1,500 calorie difference that leads to weight gain. Of course, each individual’s calorie intake is based off of activity level, gender, and age.
