Learn more about today’s weight loss tips topic; is the new weight loss supplement by GlaxoSmithKline worth it?

There is a lot of hype around the new weight loss supplement to be released by GlaxoSmithKline. However, this medication is not really new. This medication has been available by prescription for awhile. The prescription name is referred to as Xenical. The over the counter name is Orlistat. GlaxoSmithKline is hoping to release this weight loss supplement over the counter by the end of this year. However, the FDA has currently not approved the drug for release, yet.

GlaxoSmithKline lists the following possible side effects such as incontinence, gas, oily spotting, and loose and oily stools. The FDA is concerned with drug interactions with other prescription medications. Watchdog groups claim this is a desperate attempt by GlaxoSmithKline to revive poor sales as a prescription weight loss medication.

This pill sounds like a “magic pill.” However, every medication whether over the counter or prescription does hold certain risks. Orlistat did indeed help obese people lose weight in the clinical trials. This medication can be expected to cost around $12-$25 per week, if sold over the counter. GlaxoSmithKline also recommends taking this medication for six months before stopping. This can add up to around $288-$600 in 6 months.

This pill sounds like a “magic pill.” However, every medication whether over the counter or prescription does hold certain risks. Weight loss supplements can help you lose weight but if you do not change your diet and lifestyle to a healthier one then weight loss will be temporary and short lived. Relying on medications to take our problems away is not the answer. Spend your money trying to learn how to be healthy for a long and prosperous life.
