Wellness Tips: Acupuncture

Posted February 8th, 2006 by admin

Acupuncture is a great stress releasing wellness tip.

Acupuncture began in China 2000 years ago. Acupuncture is one of the oldest medical procedures in the world. Acupuncture is believed to help balance the energy flow throughout the body. Acupuncture that is practiced in the U.S. uses tiny, metallic needles. These needles are placed in the affected areas and manipulated by hand or electrical stimulation.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that the body has two inseparable forces, Yin and Yang. Yin represents cold, slow, or passive principles while Yang represents the hot, excited, or active principles. Vital energy (qi) flows through pathways or meridians. There are 2,000 acupuncture points where the qi flows.

Acupuncture has been show to be effective in many areas of health conditions such as osteoarthritis, low back pain, headache, menstrual camps, asthma, addiction, chemotherapy side effects, postoperative nausea, and carpal tunnel syndrome. A study revealed that acupuncture provided pain relief, increased mobility and function of joints affected by arthritis. Acupuncture is believed to help regulate the nervous system and helps release endorphins for pain relief.
