Today’s wellness tips topic; carrier oils that are used in aromatherapy to dilute highly potent essential oils. Essential oils can have adverse reactions if applied topically on the skin undiluted. Let’s examine the differences of the carrier oils used in aromatherapy.
Carrier oils are of a vegetable origin which are extracted from seeds and nuts through a process called cold pressing. Cold pressing the carrier oil does not destroy essential vitamins and fatty acids that allow the carrier oil such wonderful therapeutic benefits. Carrier oils should be 100% pure, cold pressed, and unrefined.
Apricot Kernel oil is extracted from the kernel of the apricot. Apricot Kernel oil has a light scent and is pale yellow in color. Apricot Kernel oil is easily absorbed into the skin. Apricot Kernel oil moisturizes the body and face well. Apricot Kernel oil contains vitamin E, A, and B. Apricot Kernel oil is great for all skin types but especially for inflamed, sensitive, dry skin. This oil used on the face leaves the skin soft and supple.
The carrier oil referred to as St. John’s Wort is extracted from infusions from the Hypericum bush. St. John’s Wort is good for red, sensitive, and sore skin. Coconut oil is a great carrier oil for moisturizing the body and hands. Coconut oil is light in scent. Coconut oil is easily absorbed into the skin. Coconut oil leaves the skin with a smooth satin effect. Coconut oil is good for moisturizing and conditioning dull, dry, or brittle hair.
