Wellness Tips: Childhood Nutrition

Posted January 17th, 2006 by admin

Learn more about today’s wellness tip; how you can help your child be healthy.

Nutrition is extremely important for your child. Not only for energy to play, but to grow and build a healthy body. Good nutrition is important now and for the rest of your child’s life. Proper nutrition helps ward of disease and sickness in your child.

Healthy habits start with you. Children learn from their parents. Your child will observe what foods you eat and when you eat them. Your child will build their own habits from those habits he or she sees. This is a great time to teach and show your child healthy eating habits.

A healthy childhood diet should not include burgers and fries for every meal. A healthy childhood diet includes a well balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy products. Following the food pyramid is important in early childhood. Encourage your child to try different food. Give your child many options. This will help them pick foods that are better for them in the long run.

Teach your children how to read nutrition labels. Teach your children about preservatives and additives in the foods they are eating. Encourage your child to eat all natural foods or those foods with very little preservatives in them.
