Wellness Tips: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Posted November 30th, 2005 by admin

Learn the differences between sleep deprivations and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Sleep deprivation can play its toll on our health. Sleep is necessary for our body to repair any damaged tissues. Sleep is also important for us to clear our minds, so we are ready for the next day. However, there is a difference between sleep deprivation and chronic fatigue syndrome. I want to focus on the difference between these two.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is more difficult to live with. CFS is persistent fatigue lasting six months or more. Some symptoms include feeling feverish, sore throat, muscle aches/pains and joint pains, increased headaches, tender or swollen lymph nodes, depression, decreased quality sleep, and decreased concentration.

Those who are sleep deprived would usually not exhibit swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, sore throat, or feverishness. Many of those that exhibit the CFS symptoms usually become fatigued after a recent illness with maybe the flu or a respiratory illness. However, there are treatment options for those diagnosed with CFS. Such options include steroids, anti-depressants, and anti-histamines.
