During the winter months, dry skin can become an unbearable situation. The uncomfortable irritation that comes from the lack of moisture can affect all areas of the body. When the skin becomes dry, it feels coarse and scaly. What are some causes of dry skin?
During the winter months, the body can become overheated and dry due to lack of moisture. In contrast, during summer months air conditioning creates dry skin too. The overuse of antiperspirants and soaps cause dry skin. Hot baths can also cause dry skin. Those individuals who experience daily stress, are exposed to smoke, and large amounts of sun may experience dry skin. As the body ages, dry skin will worsen as sweat and oil glands in the body decrease.
The real inconvenience of dry skin is the itching that evolves. The crazy itching can cause a decrease in sleep. If you have very dry and itchy skin, consult a physician as this may be related to serious health concerns.
Here are some tips for caring for dry skin. Apply a daily moisturizer right after showering. After showering the body is slightly moist, apply the moisturizer to help seal in moisture. Limit the amount of time spent bathing or showering. Avoid using hot water, try a warm shower instead. You can also use a humidifier to increase moisture in the air.
