Wellness Tips: Essential Oil Relief

Posted February 27th, 2006 by admin

Learn the many wellness and health tips essential oils can offer.

Wellness and health tips often focus on diet and exercise. Occassionally, stress relieving techniques may focus on changes in perspective. Aromatherapy is another stress and wellness treatment technique that is growing more and more popular.

Essential oils are pure plant essences which are created through steam distillation of flowers, leaves, resins, roots, wood, fruit, and seeds. These oils when used properly can treat an array of medical ailments. However if the essential oil is used improperly they can cause harm just the same as improperly using medications.

Essential oils in other countries are only available through licensed qualified practitioners. In the U.S., essential oils are easier to come by. However, only a few of the essential oils are suitable for children. Epileptic children should not come in contact with stimulating essential oils. If your child takes prescribed medications, research the essential oil of choice thoroughly before using.

Essential oils are used externally in your child’s bath, body lotion, oils, creams, foot baths, gels, compresses, or in a warmer. When using essential oils, you need to find a reputable supplier of therapeutic grade essential oils (organic or wildcrafted). Many synthetic varieties of essential oils exist; however these oils offer no therapeutic treatment and may cause harm to your child. Keep essential oils in cobalt blue or dark amber containers to protect from light. Also, keep essential oils in a dark and cool location out of reach of children.
