Learn more about today’s wellness tips topic; menopause.

Wellness tips is aware that few women look forward to menopause. Menopause is known as the cessation of one’s menstrual cycle and the time of transition through this event. Menopause typically occurs between the ages of forty-five and fifty-five. Some of the side effects that occur during menopause include hot flashes, spotting, memory lapse, anxiety, depression, loss of libido, night sweats, and mood swings. The ‘change of life’ can occur quickly or take many years.

However, menopause can also occur when a woman’s reproductive organs are surgically removed. This creates a hormonal state of menopause. The symptoms of menopause remain the same whether this state is created naturally or through the surgical removal of one’s reproductive organs. Hormonal replacement has been prescribed for women during and after menopause to decrease the risks of developing diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Hormonal replacement therapy is designed to replace the hormone estrogen. This was originally thought to reduce the risk of disease. Recent studies have shown that this treatment may actually increase the incidence of heart disease and breast cancer. Since these studies, professional opinions remain diverse on the benefits from hormone replacement therapy.

The best course of action is to discuss your individual situation with your doctor. This will give you the chance to discuss the risks of using hormone replacement therapy along with the downfalls of not using hormone replacement therapy. Taking the time to discuss your options with your doctor can help you to make an informed decision based on your needs.

There are other treatments that can be used to treat menopausal symptoms such as diet modification, vitamins, and naturopathic remedies. If you choose alternative treatments, consider working with a trained professional in that area. Physical and mental activity can help offset some of the menopausal symptoms. Maintaining regular exercise along with eating a healthy diet can make a big difference in the overall quality of life. Engage in mentally stimulating activities daily. Wellness tips encourages you to speak with a medical provider on the options that are available for managing the symptoms of menopause.
