Wellness Tips: Nutrition Resolutions
Learn more about today’s wellness tip; think nutrition for your New Year’s resolution.
Many of us lack in eating healthy because we never want to prepare our food. In fact, meal preparation to some of us is ordering from a menu or at a drive thru. If you are serious about getting healthy and fit, then you must make good choices about what you eat. Here are a few nutrition tips for the New Year.
It is okay to indulge your sweet tooth occasionally. This is where we practice the technique of moderation. If you restrict yourself to never have dessert, you will find yourself binge eating. Pick a night of the week to have dessert. This gives you a sense of control.
Try to eat your meal slowly. Why? This gives your brain time to register when the stomach is full. However, when we eat really fast we eat too much and our brain cannot decide when the stomach is too full until you have eaten too much. So take your time and savor your meal. Try setting a time limit when eating.
Try to eat every 3-4 hours throughout the day. Have three meals a day with two snacks in between meals. If you stay up later at night, try snacking on vegetables like baby carrots and celery.
Try planning your next day’s meals after your last meal of the day. Try writing your meal plan down. You should include a ratio of carbs to protein in each meal. The ratio of carbs to protein is 2.5 to 1.
The body requires carbohydrates and proteins for fuel especially if you are exercising. Food is the fuel to help us reach our fitness goals. If we put in the wrong type of food in our body, then the body does not operate properly.
Try to drink plenty of water, since our body is made of water. Water helps to eliminate wastes and toxins from the body. If you exercise daily, try drinking 0.5 to 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight.
