Continuing on from yesterday’s wellness tip . . . .

Signs of alcoholism involve making excuses to drink alcohol. They begin drinking alone and secretly. Alcoholics begin to drink frequently to function. Alcoholics become unable to quit or reduce alcohol intake. Alcoholics tend to have violent episodes while drinking. Alcoholics become angry when confronted about their problem.

Alcoholics have poor eating habits and may be malnourished. Alcoholics tend to not care about their physical appearance or hygiene. In the morning, an alcoholic will begin to tremble in response to the need for alcohol. This shows that the body has a physical dependence to alcohol. Alcoholics may black out during the evening and have no recollection of the night. Alcoholics may feel nervous in a social situation where alcohol is not available.

Alcoholism leads to serious damage of the liver, brain, heart, and other vital organs. This damage may be irreversible and can result in an early death. Help is available. If someone you know has a problem with alcohol, help them to seek treatment and counseling. It is never too late to recover from alcohol addiction.
