Diabetes is a disease that is becoming an epidemic. With increased obesity because of the growing fast food market, we can see why diabetes is such an epidemic. Informing you with must know information can help you recognize diabetes. This can help you prevent the disease.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body cannot process sugar properly. There are two types of diabetes, properly named type I and type II. When we eat a meal our pancreas secretes a hormone called insulin. This hormone helps glucose (simplest sugar) be used by the cells. Type I diabetes causes the patient to not secrete insulin. Those with type II diabetes produce insulin but the body renders the insulin ineffective.
Diabetes type II is becoming very common due to our poor diets. Those that are obese have an increased risk of developing this disease. Diabetes is a serious affliction of your health. If your blood sugar is not monitored and treated, this can lead to heart problems, neuropathy (nerve damage), kidney damage, and blindness. You can easily monitor your blood sugar by the right combination of medicine, diet, and exercise.
The best way to find out if you have diabetes is to have your blood sugar checked. A normal blood sugar level is 70 mmol to 120 mmol. Here are a few common symptoms diabetes type I: weight loss, increased thirst, increased urination, fruity breath, headache, extreme hunger, and tunnel vision. Diabetes type II usually causes weight gain, because the insulin is ineffective at convertion of glucose to the cell. If you feel you have diabetes, consult your doctor.
